How Can Diet Help to Manage Osteoporosis?

Eating a healthy diet, that follows the Eatwell plate, and includes 2-3 portions of dairy foods a day will help to support your bone health. Being underweight (Body Mass Index (BMI) under 18.5kg/m²) increases your risk of osteoporosis. This may be because body fat stores help to maintain oestrogen levels. Please see the healthy eating section for more nutrition advice and information which will help to support a healthy weight.

Please note that if you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis your doctor will advise you on any calcium or vitamin D supplements you should take.
